Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Regeneration biology is in the new era of science, we can say there is the renaissance of this old topic dated from Trembley’s experiments in the 18th century of the Cnidarian Hydra. Regeneration of earthworms and other annelid species was put in the focus of regeneration biology by the outstanding researcher, the Nobel-prize laurated geneticist, Thomas Hunt Morgan at the end of the 19th century. Because of the limited experimental possibilities of the regeneration research, it was in a long static state till the turn of the millennium. The possibility of the application of new experimental protocols like omics, neuro-immune interactions and more accurate surgical interventions significantly modified our knowledge on regeneration as a general and specific phenomenon. Therefore a thematic issue on the new results on earthworms and annelids’ regeneration can be a strong orientation of both young and middle-age scientists to the real problems of biology. Furthermore, it can give support to win scientific grants of various countries and European Communities.

With this proposal, we call possible publications on earthworms and annelids’ regeneration which focus on - but not restricted to - the (i) surgical intervention on regeneration, (ii) mediation of the segment and/or organ regeneration by chemical and physical effects, (iii) neuro-immune interactions in regeneration. Identification of chemical elements and compounds which influence the tissue and organ regeneration is strongly appreciated as well. Research papers and reviews are welcomed.
