Dr. Bruce R. McCord Appointed Editor-in-Chief of Forensic Sciences

Dr. Bruce R. McCord is a Professor of Analytical/Forensic Chemistry at Florida International University (FIU), Miami, USA.  He received a B.S. in Chemistry with honors from William and Mary in 1981, and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. Prior to his present position, he served 6 years at Ohio University and 9 years with the FBI laboratory. His current research interests involve forensic genetics, toxicology, and explosive residue detection as well as applications of biosensing, microfluidics, and nanotechnology. He has published over 125 peer-reviewed papers, 15 book chapters and received 10 patents. He has mentored over 28 Ph.D. students and 16 M.S. students as well as numerous post-doctoral researchers and visiting scientists.

Dr. McCord is the current Editor of the MDPI Journal Forensic Sciences and Deputy Editor for the Journal Electrophoresis. He also serves on the scientific committees for the Green Mountain DNA conference, the FIU Forensic Science Symposium, LACE, and the Editorial Board of Forensic Chemistry. Dr. McCord is a member of the Biological Methods Committee of OSAC/NIST, and, in 2008, he received the Paul Kirk Award from the Criminalistics Section of the AAFS. In his time off, he is an avid saxophonist and windsurfer.
