Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this study, authors have evaluated the current status of COVID-19 vaccine production, in country vaccine requirement and vaccination strategy, and international vaccine contracts of one of the world's largest vaccine manufacturer, India. This manuscript is well-written and highlights all three aspects of vaccine production, vaccination strategy and vaccine exports in/from India. It also indicates different possible outcomes in vaccination and vaccine exports depending on what strategy India follows. Only major concern is the timeliness of the data as it considers data of until the end of 30th April and some of the predictions for August are outdated. Besides that, I think some of the figures can be reduced including merging figure 4 and 5 as well as figure 6 and 7. Otherwise, great job by the authors.

Author Response

Point 1: Only major concern is the timeliness of the data as it considers data of until the end of 30th April and some of the predictions for August are outdated.
Response 1: Yes, we agree. This is briefly discussed in the limitations section. Due to limited resources we were forced to restrict data collection until April 30, 2021. We therefore clarified whenever hypothetical numbers were used for analysis of a scenario after this date.

Point 2: I think some of the figures can be reduced including merging figure 4 and 5 as well as figure 6 and 7.
Response 2: We agree regarding figure 4 and 5, which have been merged. However, we would prefer to keep figures 6 and 7 separate. We feel that mixing the graphs of two different hypothetical scenarios might confuse readers. It also seems fitting to have one graph per scenario, now that 4 and 5 have been merged.

Reviewer 2 Report

This research paper is very interesting to read, and it discusses an important research topic concerning the India main challenges while running its large vaccination strategy and at the same time, India is considered as the main global vaccine manufacturer in the world. The topic in this paper is important. This study is very helpful to all researchers and provides some valuable information. The quality of this paper is generally good with some good results and analysis. However, this paper needs a major revision by the authors according to the following suggestions:

* There are many typos and grammatical errors in some parts of this text. Please double check all sentences and correct all sentences that need to be corrected grammatically. Please avoid using “It” in the paper if it is possible.

* All figures are not clear to readers. Please use high-resolution images for your figures.

* Tables and some figures are not well-organized in the text. Please double check all of them and re-organize them if it is possible.

* The motivations for this study are not clearly presented in the introduction section. Please clearly state the motivations for your study by adding one to two sentences supported by references to support your claim for motivations to study this topic.

* The introduction section needs to be improved by adding an outline (overview) of this paper to give readers have an overview about all sections’ topics of this paper before reading the paper. This needs to be added at the last lines of the introduction section in this paper.

* Lines 100-101 in the paper are not clear to the reader. Please clarify what is the meaning of “the following article”?

* Please avoid writing dates in this way: “on 24th of April, 2021 or 24th April, 2021”, and please use the well-known way of writing dates such as “on April 24, 2021” because it is efficient and reliable while writing research papers.

* The "conclusions" section needs to be improved by suggesting some possible future works based on the obtained results in this work so the readers and other interested researchers can prepare a future plan for further research works concerning this particular study.

* Please double check all references and make sure that they are all listed correctly in this work.

Revising this paper by addressing all above suggested corrections will improve the quality of this paper, and hence, it will be acceptable after a major revision for a possible publication in this journal.
