Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript is a literature review on doped ZnSe and ZnS. Overall, it's a good manuscript and a good read. However, I have a few comments. Please provide information on the crystal structure of pure matrices, i.e. ZnS and ZnSe. Which polymorphs of both compounds are used to make optical materials ? Also, I found spelling mistakes. Please read the manuscript very carefully and delete them.

Author Response

Thank you for your comments. Crystal structures of the ZnS and ZnSe have been added. The English language along the manuscript has been corrected.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article is a typical review article.
It concerns a narrow group of laser materials that have been produced
for over half a century. Their technology is currently stagnating,
but the authors believe that there are premises for its further
progress. The layout of the article is typical for such studies.
A very good literature review, which is the basis of the entire
study, should be emphasized. The introduction is written logically
and concisely, describing the most important features
of the chalcogenides materials, their application limitations
and the basic problems of their technology.
The conclusions are based on the authors' experience and indicate
the possibility of further development of the technology
using the current technical possibilities.
I think that the article can be printed in its current form
without corrections.
