Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript evaluated the adsorption and biotransformation capacities in vitro of AFB1 and ZEN by three S. cerevisiae strains from bovine forage. The study designed well and obtained some interesting information. The following are my comments, which need to be addressed before it can be accepted.

1. Correct the following spelling errors:

Line 55: the word “biding” should be “binding”.

Line 76: “apply these strains to use raw milk”, delete the word “use”.

Line 110: “NaHCO3” should be “NaHCO3”.

Line 113: add punctuation mark “.” after the word “simulation”.

Line 125: “compared” should be “compare”.

Line 241: add punctuation mark “.” after mannoproteins [10,12].

2. In the introduction section (lines 43-46), detrimental properties of aflatoxins were briefly introduced, but lack of reference support. It is necessary to add several references herein, and allow me to suggest the following publication to be cited herein, please.

Wang, Y.; Liu, F.; Zhou, X.; Liu, M.; Zang, H.; Liu, X.; Shan, A.; Feng, X. Alleviation of Oral Exposure to Aflatoxin B1-Induced Renal Dysfunction, Oxidative Stress, and Cell Apoptosis in Mice Kidney by Curcumin. Antioxidants 2022, 11(6), 1082. https://doi.org/10.3390/antiox11061082

3. Line 104: I want to know the culture time of yeasts besides the culture temperature.

4. Line 117: I don’t understand the dose of freeze-dried yeast powder at “0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%”. How is the number value (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) calculated.

5. Line 114: “The reaction solutions were prepared at the time of use and supplemented with the target MT concentrations”. Provide numerical values of the concentrations of AFB1 and ZEN, please.

6. Desorption concentrations of MT were provided in tables 1-6, and its detection method has been presented as in lines 116-120. However, detection method of adsorption concentrations of MT (MT content in the deposit of bacteria obtained by centrifugation) in tables 1-6 was not introduced in the section “the 2.2 Mycotoxin Saccharomyces cerevisiae adsorption assessments”. Add the detection method presentation, please.

7. Tables 1-7: provide the unit of numerical value, such as μg mL-1 or %.

8. The standard errors and statistical information of the values in Table 7 are missing, add them, please.

The work is written in a very unambiguous and very understandable language. Scientifically, it is without reservation on my part. I'd suggest taking it as it is.
Kind regards
