The author did not realize that some of the initial conditions in [1] indicated to solve the Cauchy problem in nonlocal systems are not independent, so that the number of initial conditions is reduced from four to two. Consequently, the text should be changed as follows.

• Section 1, page 2, list Item 2: “Four or higher” should be “Two or higher”.
• Section 4, page 5, the text above Equation (21) “the initial conditions are on the field $\varphi$ and its first three derivatives” should read “the initial conditions on $\chi$ are not independent, so that the initial conditions in the nonlocal theory are on the field $\varphi$ and its first derivative”. Equation (21) should read:

  $$\varphi (t_{\mathrm{i}},\mathbf{x}),\dot{\varphi }(t_{\mathrm{i}},\mathbf{x}).$$
