Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper entitled "Algorithm for automated foot detection in thermal and optical images for temperatures asymmetry analysis" aims at presenting a methodology allowing to detect abnormal thermal field on a foot. To do so, the method relies on 1) the feet edge detection, 2) the thermal field interpolation on points of interest, 3) the creation of a disparity map between the two feet and 4) the comparison of the disparity with a threshold value to detect abnormal zone.

The paper is well written and the methods used are quite well described. Nevertheless, some precision have to be added in order to help the comprehension:

  • the Figure 3 is difficult to understand, as different number seem to point toward the same object which complicate the comprehension of the method
  • it seems that the disparity field is built on by performing the difference between the temperature at two corresponding point-of-interest belonging to each foot. But is it exact?
  • what happened if the temperature is abnormal in both foot at the same point-of-interest? Does it perturbe the detection?
  • it is not precised how the inflammation zone is attibuted to one foot or the other, supposingly according to the sign of the disparity value but it has to be noticed.

Reviewer 2 Report

-please add colorful picture of measurements (optionally);;;?
-please add block diagram of the proposed research step by step ;;; what is the result of paper?;;;
-please add block diagram of the proposed method;;;
-please add photo/photos of application of the proposed research ;;;;
-please add sentences about future analysis;;;
-Figures should have better quality;;;; for now they are low
-formulas should be formatted;;;;
-too many formulas, it is better to add block diagrams;;;;;
-Fonts of figures should be bigger;;;
-references should be 2018-2021 Web of Science about 50% or more ;;
-Please compare with other methods, justify. Advantages or Disadvantages thermal imaging;;
for example:

-Conclusion: point out what are you done;;;;
-is there possibility to use the proposed method for other problems?
