Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This investigation is generally well-performed and well-presented, both in terms of the field data collection and subsequent modelling. I have only one specific question regarding the PCA plot shown in Figure 2: since the Dim1 took so much weight compared to Dim2, there is a possibility that Dim1 actually explained most of the sample differences, regardless of what caused them, in the model. Under this situation, it would be safer to show a PCA plot using PC2 and PC3 as x and y-axis together with the PC1-PC2 plot to show if there is any hidden component that may explain the pain trait better. A Scree plot may also be added to better illustrate the PC reduction trends in this data group.

Reviewer 2 Report

The aim of the study was to determine whether pain influences bipolar disorder (BD) course and to identify factors associated with pain in BD in order to guide BD management.

Article is well-organized, well-written and easy to understand. The layout of the article is typical of original papers and includes all required parts. The Authors achieved their goals and drew the correct conclusions. The Authors' results showed that the pain worsens mental health and well-being in patients with BD.

I have no comments, all data and additional materials attached to the article are clear and comprehensive

The authors correctly indicated some limitations of the study as well as future directions for research on this topic.

Therefore, the results obtained by the Authors and conclusions should be published.

Only the way of preparing a list of literature are inadequate and need some improvement:

  • unnecessary capital letters in the titles of the articles should be eliminated
  • journal’s names should be abbreviated.
