Full Title: GNSS-based dam monitoring: the application of a statistical approach for time series analysis to a case study

 The Article submitted to Applied Sciences MDPI by Carlo Iapige De Gaetani et al. studies the procedure for the GNSS time series processing with a statistical approach on a dam. The paper is analyzed in original submission. The work has been prepared in accordance with the authors' instructions.

The work is an enjoyable read, also because it covers very interesting topics from a scientific point of view and I believe that with the necessary amendments it can be published on AS.

Here are my suggestions for improving the work:

1)      Line 50, I permit to suggest the authors to insert a reference from an Italian case study by Vaiont Dam, for the reader, please see (but is not mandatory) DOI 10.1016/j.enggeo.2010.04.018;

2)      Line 74, I permit to suggest the authors to insert some references from other techniques used for dam monitoring, such as InSAR, please look at the most recent and most cited articles in the literature: e.g.: https://doi.org/10.3390/s18113682, https://doi.org/10.3390/rs14051112,https://doi.org/10.3390/rs13081543, https://doi.org/10.3390/rs12213658

3)      Line 119-122, the authors write: “For security and privacy reasons, site and structure will be described in a general way and any information that could potentially lead to identify the location and/or the responsible personnel/organization/company of the dam will be omitted”. I do not agree with this statement, since the proposed case study will be published in an open access journal, in which all the characteristics of the dam must be presented. Please change in the text with the characteristics of the dam (location, coordinates, ...);

4)      Line 129, please check “vicinity”, maybe better “near”;

5)      Line 135, please insert the CORS used for the case study, for the reader;

6)      Line 138, please change Figure 1, see previous comment 3;

7)      Line 149, 150, please insert all options used by the software (tropospheric, ionospheric models, ...), for the reader;

8)      Line 277, please insert other component (y and z) of the PT1 point, for the reader;

9)      Line 480-482, please chech the reference, are currently in Italian, but there is an option in English.

I will be available to authors for the assessment of the manuscript at the subsequent submission.

Best regards

Infrastructure Monitoring with GNSS is a hot topicn nowdays, the author do a good job but some issules need to pay attetions before publication, mainly as follows: (see the attached pdf comments)

1.Page 2 line 32: need more referencs, e.g.:

[1] Montillet, J.P., Szeliga, W.M., Melbourne, T.I., Flake, R.M. and Schrock, G., 2016. Critical infrastructure monitoring with global navigation satellite systems. Journal of Surveying Engineering, 142(4), p.04016014.

2.Page 3 line 127:List the main positioning performance parameters of u-blox NEO-M8T GNSS.

3.Figure 1:better to add north direction

4.PT0 site is close to a large area of water, will it be affected by multipath?

5.Page5 line 163:need some reference, e.g.

[1]GNSS-TS-NRS: An Open-source MATLAB-Based GNSS time series noise reduction software

[2]Investigation of the noise properties at low frequencies in long GNSS time series

6. a statistical approach:not clear, specific method name? not clear. The innovation of this paper needs to be further highlighted. Last, ublox is a relative low Compared with the traditional GPS receiver, the accuracy of Ublox is worse. Why did the author not use a conventional GPS receiver? Or the title can focus on : Low Cost GPS RTK Positioning
