Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The submitted report exhibits a novel nanosecond Marx generator based on avalanche BJTs, which is charged by a series-resonant power supply. This power supply charges all capacitors with a constant average current and all BJTs avalanche breakdown stage by stage without any triggering signals. When the resistors are replaced by inductors, the efficiency can be further improved. The pulse repetition frequency can be adjusted by controlling the resonant average current. The output voltage can be increased by connecting more avalanche BJTs in series or increasing the number of stages of the Marx generators. The control method and the structure of the circuit are simple. Experimental results show that negative pulses with an adjustable frequency of 10-60 kHz, a pulse width of 8.45ns, and amplitude of 4kV were obtained on a resistive load. The energy efficiency of the Marx generator was increased to 94%.

This research is well arranged, with a sequence of clear ideas, and concise writing that fits the research plan and methodology. The literature review is good and they were able to successfully discuss a discussion of their progress, from both a perspective and an applied perspective. Their chosen method makes this data analysis excellent research and enables them to answer research questions and test their hypotheses. Thus, I strongly recommend this manuscript for the publication in Applied Sciences Journal.

The manuscript presents a novel nanosecond Marx generator and its efficiency analysis. Following are my comments and questions.

1) Please fix the error from Ref 4 citation in Introduction.

2) Inclusion of a brief explanation of circuits will be helpful for readers to understand the operation of the circuits.

3) Some figures (Fig. 11-14) are not referenced in the manuscript. Proper explanations of the figures are necessary.

4) Whereas the efficiency achieved by the proposed design is very high and seems questionable (more than 90 % of efficiency), it has to be thoroughly re-verified to claim the results. It could be compared with the conventional design in an apple-to-apple approach.

Comments to Authors

I would like to thank authors for their work. The topic is interesting. The paper  is devoted to Research on a Novel Nanosecond Marx Generator and its Efficiency Analysis. novel nanosecond Marx generator based on avalanche BJTs, which is charged by a series-resonant power supply. I would like to suggest few comments.

1.  in my opinion  paper,, needs a correction. Add section “Materials and methods”. There should be the description of systems for the case studies and information on them.

2. table 1 and table 2 must be mounted into one single table.

3. All the equations must be revised.

4. What best results were gotten and with comparison of what?

5. figure 10 must be revised again as the quality is not clear.

6.. Conclusion must be revised.
