Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsLet me suggest a wider bibliography, since the text is already correct in form, logical sequence and description, which can be read even by a "layman." The procedure for Unesco heritage inscription is very complex and time-consuming, but these kinds of articles can foster the interest of public authorities to undertake the attempt. The text can also be published without changes, I would partially improve the conclusions and bibliography (it is not only the scientific-cultural component that favors inscription, the role of politics is essential, as well as the awareness of the value by local populations). Thank you and good luck!

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsVery interesting paper which emphasizes the importance of cultural and artistic aspects in Geosciences. Well-structured and thoroughly elaborated, providing detailed information on the landscapes within the geography and geology of the Duchy of Urbino region, with interesting historical data, based on a multidisciplinary approach, and a clear methodology in which comparative aspects played an important role that lead to convincing conclusions on the landscapes which inspired the three great Renaissance painters: Pierro della Francesco, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.
In conclusion the authors' aim for the inclusion of those sites in the UNESCO cultural heritage is well documented and justified. Very important for the further cultural sustainable development of the region is that these searches involved the local stakeholders including local authorities and universities in a "triple helix" approach.
Minor suggestions:
Replace the (5) in Figure 2 by Carta geologica...
Revise the letters sizes and intensity in Figs. 3 and 14.
Congratulations! Very interesting paper with real chances for the inclusion of the landscapes which potentially inspired the three great painters in the UNESCO cultural heritage. Also an important support for the geoheritage valorization and sustainable cultural development of the Duchy of Urbino region.
