Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1. The significance of the variables in the model needs further explanation and additional justification for adopting this model.

2. Please add whether some of the questions in the questionnaire design are better at representing the variables of interest.

3. What is the basis for the selection of the final set of variables in the stepwise regression of 4.1? Further explanation is needed.

4. There exists inconsistency in the preceding and following variables, which need further revision. For example, the meaning of "renewal costs" in Tables 3 and 5 is different from that of "renewal costs to residents" in Table 1. In Table 3 and Table 5, the meaning of "renewal costs" is different from that of "renewal costs to residents" in Table 1.

5. The regression results seem not consistent enough with the summary description. For example, in Table 5, the variable "Work capacity of owners' committee" is negatively significant, indicating that the impact on community renewal is negative regardless of the level of "Work capacity of owners' committee". committee" is negative, indicating that the impact on community renewal is negative regardless of the level of "work capacity of owners' committee", while the explanation in 4.4.1 is not consistent with this result.

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper utilizes an index system to measure resident satisfaction with community renewal on the basis of community governance, thus exploring the impact of community governance on resident satisfaction by constructing an ordinal logistic regression model based on data collected in 19 communities in Hangzhou of China. The presented study is able to help implement renewal projects to improve the quality of life in old communities. The paper is well structured and written. The adopted methodology, the required data and the analysis are suitable. Therefore, this paper is suggested to be accepted.

Thanks for your Comments. Regarding the issue of "English language and style are fine/minor spell check required", we have made some revisions.

Reviewer 3 Report

The purpose of this research paper is made known very clearly in the abstract, which is an assessment of resident satisfaction, as well as the factors that have a contribution to make towards community renewal and community governance in the province of Hangzhou in the country of China. The logic behind the study as well as the approach that has been taken to engage in such a study, is also made known in the abstract itself.

The introduction of this research paper talks about the sincere efforts that are being made by the government in China towards improving the quality of community life in Chinese cities and towns. The active efforts that the government here has made towards improvement of community life has been pointed out in the introduction, along with a mention of the rationale for this study, and the possible conclusions that can be drawn from the same.

Literature on the subject, of community renewal as well as urban nature, as written by Chinese scholars and global scholars as been reviewed in the review of literature section and the main contributions of these research works has been analyzed in a precise, and careful manner. The types of methods that are deployed for the purpose of community renewal and the efficacy of such methods has been made known with care in the literature review and towards the end, the gaps in the literature are identified and four possible hypotheses for testing, are clearly and well-formulated.

It is a quantitative methodology that ahs been made use of by the researchers in order, to arrive at the conclusions pertaining to the current study. Specifically, it is the use of a logistical regression model that has been engaged in on the part of the researchers, to determine, the variables and the relationship among them. Long term mechanisms, community governance, individual characteristics and renewal process are some of the most important first level indicators that have been chosen for observation and analysis with regard, to the current study.

It is quantitative analysis using regression that has been deployed in order, to interpret the results of the data that was collected for this study. The results have been presented in an empirical fashion with a lot of tables being used to indicate the numerical results of the study, in accordance with the different variables that were examined.

In conclusion, the paper argues that there is a sincere and proactive attempt that is being made by the government in China to ensure that the quality of life for people living in the community is significantly enhanced and so that urban regeneration takes place in every sense of the term.

Comments

It maybe stated that a main limitation for the study is that it is purely quantitative in nature. It is recommended that the same subject, be studied, using qualitative dimensions as well, such as using interviews and focus group discussions to gain clarity and a more rigorous understanding of the subject matter.

Author Response

Thanks for the reviewer suggestion. The scholars have used qualitative methods in community planning, sustainable development, updating content, and more. However, more scholars have adopted quantitative methods to study updated satisfaction. Quantitative methods may have certain advantages in studying the influencing factors of satisfaction. In addition, we also used qualitative research methods in our research. But not extensively mentioned in this article. During the course of our research, we conducted interviews with community workers and some residents. Therefore, we ended up using only quantitative research and mathematical modeling methods in this paper, and we will also consider in-depth research through qualitative research methods in the future.
