Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1- The title is long. Please summarize it based on the special water number

2- The introduction should be divided into paragraphs and each paragraph should be organized based on different topics such as the importance of the survey, local geology, geophysical surveys in karst, granite and Cambrian rocks, etc., with reference to reliable sources.

3- Map 1 is not suitable. The studied area in China and in the area of the studied basin should be displayed in better detail.

4- A photo of the rural areas facing water shortage should be added in the introduction section of the study area

5- If an exploratory well or wells have been drilled in the investigated area and there are geological and sedimentological logs, these logs should be used to evaluate the geophysical results.

6- The stratigraphic column of the region should be presented with a geological map with sufficient details and a geological section

7- The limitations of this method should be presented in comparison with other possible methods.

Point-By-Point Responses to the Referees Comments

Response to Reviewer 1 Comments

Point 1: The title is long. Please summarize it based on the special water number

Response 1: Thanks, the title has been summarized accordingly.

Point 2: The introduction should be divided into paragraphs and each paragraph should be organized based on different topics such as the importance of the survey, local geology, geophysical surveys in karst, granite and Cambrian rocks, etc., with reference to reliable sources.

Response 2: This section has been restructured based on previous studies and methods

Point 3: Map 1 is not suitable. The studied area in China and in the area of the studied basin should be displayed in better detail.

Response 3: The studied area in China and in the area of the studied basin have been added.

Point 4: A photo of the rural areas facing water shortage should be added in the introduction section of the study area.

Response 4: Thanks, the photo of the rural area has been added in the lower left panel of figure 1.

Point 5:If an exploratory well or wells have been drilled in the investigated area and there are geological and sedimentological logs, these logs should be used to evaluate the geophysical results.

Response 5: Thanks, the logs’ information have been added and used to evaluate the geophysical results. It was found that the geophysical results are in good agreement with the information from sedimentological logs from the drill wells. The drill logs’ data also coincides well the known stratigraphic information.

Point 6:The stratigraphic column of the region should be presented with a geological map with sufficient details and a geological section.

Response 6: The stratigraphic information is presented in figure 2 for the study area.

Point 7:The limitations of this method should be presented in comparison with other possible methods.

Response 7: Thanks, the limitations of this method in comparison with other methods have been added. That is the profile whose surface cover is dry sand (at river banks) presented poor anomaly for the underlying subsurface geological features.

Note: This newly revised manuscript has been restructured compared to the previous version few pieces of information have been omitted and some data has been added. I really appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear authors, thank you for submitting the manuscript to the journal of Water MDPI. Its topic is very interesting. However, the current version of the paper suffers from a number of weaknesses related to the empirical strategy used. I have the following comments/questions for the authors:

1-    Abstract: The abstract could be more specific. I suggest the authors should organize the abstract as well as main text in four sections, namely: scope, objectives, methods, results, conclusions. Also, abstract section should be completed with the results of the study (variables must be added).

2-      Introduction: In introduction chapter please focus on the study topics generally, on the basis of examples in the other studies that use the hydrogeological survey and geophysical prospecting for explorations the groundwater aquifer and hydraulic parameters in whole World, not your study area, you can see the recent articles:

https://doi.org/10.1007/s12665-021-09617-3

https://doi:10.1155/2010/585243

3-    Section 2. Geological overview of the study area, must be changed to: Study area overview.

4-    Figure 1: not clear, also please add more Lat. and Long. Lines on the map.

5-    In geology section: please add stratigraphic cross section in the area (the text in this part is very long).

6-    In section 2.3. Hydrological settings: it is very important to add hydrogeological cross section in the study are.

7-    Sections of Materials, Methods and Results: need some improvements and rearrangements (some of the results are found in methodology). I suggest the authors should organize these parts.

8-    Hydraulic parameters are very important in evaluation of an aquifer, this part must be taken into account in this study.

9-      Conclusion: You should conclude your text by condensing it and adding future work so that your work can be recommended.

Please respond to all of those comments in the revised manuscript by pointing out precisely and concisely on which page and in which line you have incorporated your response one by one.
