Determination of Bisphenol A (BPA) in the Port of Gdynia Waters Using Gas Chromatography Coupled with Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The study is quite essential and interesting. However, following comments should be taken into account before the publication of the article in the prestigious journal of Water.
1) the GIS based map identifying the working site should be included in the manuscript.
2) The mathematical findings should be rechecked for the typographical mistake of comma in place of decimal point. For instance; in figure 7, the R2 value is written to be 0,9943. I believe that there should be a decimal point there rather than comma. The whole manuscript should be revised to address this issue.
3) The statistical tests should be implemented in order to study the actual statistically significant difference of the concentration of Bisphenol A observed in the various samples.
4) The acquired results should be properly discussed in the results and discussion section.
The English quality needs a bit of improvement.

General comments
The article is interesting to read and well written. This paper presents the procedure for the determination of BPA in seawater. BPA in water samples were extracted by SPE method, and analyzed by GC-MS. I suggest major revision of the manuscript based on the following comments.
Detailed Corrections/comments:
(1) Line 84, ‘km2’ should be changed to ‘km2’
(2) Line 119, The figure 1 is not clear enough.
(3) Line 147, BPA is a weakly acidic substance, please provide the preservation condition of water samples.
(4) Line 184-187, why is the response value of BPA in Figure 5 inferior to that in Figure 6 at the same concentration level. I think derivatization is inefficient.
No

The manuscript is well written ,the sampling methodologies and analysis results are clear and robust. However, it would be opportune to expand introduction emphasizing the toxic effects of bisphenol a on aquatic organisms (alone and in combination with other contaminants) as widely documented (https://doi.org/10.1111/gcb.15127,https://doi.org/10.3390/toxics9120344)
