Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1.        The introduction is excessively long and contains too many paragraphs. Some paragraphs are too short. I suggest the authors consolidate the content of these paragraphs and compress the length of the introduction.

2.        The literature review in the introduction is weak. I recommend the authors to read and cite the following references.

Exploring the temporal and spatial effects of city size on regional economic integration: Evidence from the Yangtze River Economic Belt in China.

Temporal and Spatial Effects of Heavy Metal-Contaminated Cultivated Land Treatment on Agricultural Development Resilience.

3.        Section 2.2.3 is too short and should not be treated as a separate section.

4.        The content of section 3.1 should also be integrated, with each paragraph ideally consisting of no less than 8 lines.

5.        The discussion section is too brief and lacks a comparison with the conclusions of existing literature.

6.        Additionally, the authors should emphasize the novelty and contributions of this paper in the discussion section.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article analyzes the changes in land use and land cover in Itaperuna, Brazil from 2015 to 2020, and their impact on runoff generation, which has certain reference value for flood management and disaster prevention and mitigation in the city. However, the article still has certain shortcomings.

Abstract: The focus is not prominent, and it is recommended to express it according to the research background, significance, methods, and results.

Introduction: The content is relatively rich, but it is a bit scattered. It is suggested to further condense the main content, which can be divided into four to five paragraphs to explain, such as the background of urbanization development, urban runoff background, the current status and existing problems of land use change on urban runoff research, the necessity of research in Itapeluna City, and the objectives of this study.

Study area: It is recommended to add a DEM map in Figure 1. The research area should include the natural conditions of the region, such as temperature, precipitation, terrain, etc. The flood history and images of Itaperuna city are suggested to be included in the introduction section.

Data resources: It is recommended to increase the address and time for obtaining various data.

Methods: Other research methods should be added, and describing only one model is not convincing.

Results: It is recommended to maintain consistent latitude and longitude formats for all figures. It should be explained how the accuracy of land use classification is and how it is tested. Suggest adding quantitative content on the impact of land use change on runoff.

Discussion: Lack of comparative discussion with other related studies and lack of references. It is recommended to further supplement.

Conclusion: It is recommended to add a title, focusing on the conclusions and insights obtained from this article.

Overall, this article has a simple research approach and cannot find novelty. It is recommended to conduct a major revision.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The work seems to be interesting, but needs to be improved to be publishable.

The title can be changed to Spatio-Temporal Land Cover changes and Associated Runoff Impact in Itaperuna city, Brazil

Abstract: insert elements of the methodology. There is no logical sequence in the presentation of the results, nor in the meaning/implication of the results. Temporal fluctuation is not relevant as a keyword. Add new keywords.

Introduction: abnormally logical. Lines 74 to 146 should be shortened. The choice of the city of Itaperuna, in connection with the theme of the work, does not appear. A hypothesis should be added.

Study area: describe climate, soil, relief, vegetation. Briefly describe the city's development process and economic context.

Data: the time interval studied seems too short (5 years). Other satellite images from before 2015 should be added, and the choice of image dates should be justified.

Nothing is mentioned about the number of land covers and their description. Also, nothing is mentioned about classification validation.

How is urban zone defined in this work? What year is the soil map from?

Results: sort out the relevant results. Interpretation must be concise and precise.

Discussion: to be improved. Break it down into 3 sections: 1. Limitations of methods; 2. Land cover change and associated runoff impacts 3. Implications for urban management.

Add a conclusion.

Reference 6 is missing the year

Not all authors are mentioned in reference 8

Journal names must be abbreviated for references 16, 19, 25, 27, 29, 31, 32, 40, 43, 53.

Review of "Temporal Land Use and Land Cover Fluctuations and Runoff Impact: A Case Study in Itaperuna, Brazil"

The study addresses a relevant and timely topic, investigating the impacts of urbanization on water resources in a rapidly developing region. The study documents changes in LULC categories and their relationship to surface runoff. The manuscript emphasizes the practical implications of the findings for urban planning and water management. The authors suggest valuable directions for future research.

Overall, I recommend major revision for the following concerns:

1- References style is not correct. Please revise it.

2- Please check the references as there are some references without Doi or wrongly inserted and some the location of publication is not written. Please check them carefully.

3- Add a flowchart to describe the method

4- It is necessary to add a conclusion section

5- Introduction section need to be organized in subtitles and more newly references should be added to the introduction

6- Why the author's used the study period  2015 and 2020 only

7- Please add some numeric results in the abstract.

8- add more literature review about remote sensing in the introduction

9- use same coordinate system in all figures

I look forward to seeing a better version of the manuscript.
