Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper is generally good and easy to follow.

Selection of site:

There could have been similar sites in the country that could have been used. Authors should explain how they selected this study area to link up with the justification of the study area.

Days for taking data:

Assuming that measurements were done on different days, for example, 5th, 9th, and 10th August will the results have been the same? Authors need to justify the choice of these days and times.

Address the few minor corrections.

Selection of site:

Answer: Although many urban areas could be chosen for the study site, this project focused on a newly developed urban area, Suwon, near Seoul. Suwon is a medium size city and a well-urbanized study site. In 2017, the study sites were located in a central urban area, and less urbanized areas were studied in 2018. The edge of the urban area was studied in 2019. This five-year project wanted to investigate human thermal environments of various local climate zones by locations within the city.

Days for taking data:

Assuming that measurements were done on different days, for example, 5th, 9th, and 10th August will the results have been the same? Authors need to justify the choice of these days and times.

Answer: I think you were confused with one of the other studies. This study used measured data from 09:00 on August 3 to 15:30 on August 4. All climatic data were measured at the same time.

Address the few minor corrections.

Answer: your suggested minor corrections were applied.

Reviewer 2 Report

Congratulations on your work efforts. This paper presents the comparison of thermal environment by LCZs based on 2 days in-situ measurements. It is nicely written and well organized. However, it’s lacking some important analysis and discussion. Therefore, this paper could be accepted with minor revision.

Comments:

1.       Table 4: what are these a-e superscript?

2.       The results in 2016 was published in reference 71. But present study haven’t discussed anything related to major differences in 2016 and 2017. I think this study should discuss the 2016 results.

However, it’s lacking some important analysis and discussion. Therefore, this paper could be accepted with minor revision.

Comments:

  1. Table 4: what are these a-e superscript?

Answer: they are the results of significance analysis of one-way ANOVA. “* a-e are the results of significance analysis of one-way ANOVA (p<0.05)” were added below the table.

  1. The results in 2016 were published in reference 71. But the present study hasn’t discussed anything related to major differences between 2016 and 2017. I think this study should discuss the 2016 results.

Answer: the results of 2016 compared only air temperature among four locations and focused on the thermal environments of 24 locations inside an urban neighborhood park which had different morphologies of surface materials and direct beam solar radiation existence. Therefore, it was not available to compare both the 2016 and 2017 results.

Thank you for your valuable comments.
