Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The curriculum schemes discussed are for Ship Engineering degree programs from one university in China and one university in the UK.

The authors make generalized conclusions about comparisons between ship engineering programs offered in China and the UK that are only based on the analysis of one university in each country. Therefore the data analyzed to make these general and broad conclusions does not seem to be enough.

The authors need to provide some information about the following:

How do some other prominent ship engineering programs offered in the UK compare to the program considered in the study?

How do some other prominent ship engineering programs offered in China compare to the program considered in the study?

The authors have presented a curriculum design example for a single module in an English language course. The authors should consider providing some information regarding how this teaching design varies from what is being used currently in the courses offered at OUC and UOS. What is the specific novel contribution that has been made by the authors?

l   Sustainability is a broad concept, and the authors could please explain how this research has played a role in promoting sustainability in engineering education itself. Otherwise, it will feel a bit far-fetched to the reader.

l   Different countries or regions carry out different education and training in a certain field, and this difference is objective. Are their differences inspiring to the other? In addition, the authors supplemented the status of similar studies.

l   In the comparison and analysis of relevant curricula in the two countries, we would like to see the views of the authors of the manuscripts, in addition to the statements of the existing facts.

l   The conclusion needs to be rewritten, it should be more objective, comprehensive, and can provide reference value for the relevant field.

l   Properly proofreading and formatting manuscripts according to the journal’s specifications is required.

Minor editing of English language required.

The article presents a very relevant topic academically and socially. It responds to the problem and objective proposed in the research. The sections are clear and adherent to the thematic a Comparative Study of Ship Engineering Curricula between China and UK. The methodology is well elaborated with indicators that facilitate the understanding of the problem. In the final considerations I think I should insert future research from this and which form the limitations regarding this work.
