Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors,

To begin with, I am pleased to have had the chance to peruse the article titled, “How does the Integration of Cultural Tourism Industry Affect Rural Revitalization? The Mediating Effect of New Urbanization”, which has captured my attention.

The paper has some points that need the author’s attention as below.

1-    Draw your research framework and identify your hypotheses inside.

2-    Justify the adequacy of sample size.

3-    You have a lot of subsections in the manuscript, try to merge some of them.

4-    No discussion section.

5-    Theoretical and empirical contributions and implication need more elaboration and comparison with regards to previous similar studies.

6-    No limitation and further study opportunity section.

Author Response

Thank you very much for taking time to review our manuscript and make these useful comments. We have made detailed feedback to your comments and marked them in red in the latest version. In addition, we have proofread the language and grammar mistakes throughout the manuscript. We have also simplified our references to make them more relevant to this study. We hope you will be satisfied with our revision. If there are any additional suggestions, please do not hesitate to notice us, we will continue to refine our paper. Finally, thank you again for your time and professional guidances to our manuscript.

Point 1: Draw your research framework and identify your hypotheses inside.

Response 1: Thank you very much for your valuable guidance. According to your suggestion, we inserted the research framework in the manuscript and marked the 9 hypotheses of this study. For details, see page 9 of the manuscript (line 384 and Figure 2, in red). If you have any other questions or suggestions in this regard, you are welcome to ask.

Point 2: Justify the adequacy of sample size.

Response 2: Thank you very much for your question about the sample size used in the study. After reading a lot of studies on related topics, we found that the sample size of the same type of studies was mostly about 200 or less, such as [1]Tian Y, Liu Q, Ye Y, et al. How the Rural Digital Economy Drives Rural Industrial Revitalization—Case Study of China’s 30 Provinces[J]. Sustainability, 2023, 15(8): 6923. and [2] Wang Y, Yu Z, Hou Y. The Effects of Environmental Regulation and Low-Carbon Logistics Capacity on the Level of New Urbanization in Six Central Provinces of China[J]. Sustainability, 2022, 14(19): 12686. Therefore, we believe that the panel data of 31 provincial-level regions in China from 2005 to 2021 used in this study is sufficient to support our research conclusion. If you have further questions about this, we are happy to make further improvements.

Point 3: You have a lot of subsections in the manuscript, try to merge some of them.

Response 3: Thank you very much for your guidance and advice. We have adjusted and optimized the structure of the article according to your suggestions. For example, subsections below 4.3 have been incorporated (see page 10 of the manuscript, lines 426-451, in red). The other chapters have more content, so we did not do further consolidation. I hope you find this process satisfactory. If you need us to do further optimization, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Point 4: No discussion section.

Response 4: Thank you very much for your suggestions regarding the missing discussion section of this manuscript. We have added this section to Chapter 6 of the manuscript (see 6.2. discussion, page 19-20, lines 683-735, in red). In this section, we discuss the implications of this study for policy practice. If you have other relevant suggestions, please let us know and we will be happy to consider your suggestions.

Point 5: Theoretical and empirical contributions and implication need more elaboration and comparison with regards to previous similar studies

Response 5: Thank you very much for guiding us to elaborate and compare more existing research on theoretical and empirical contributions and significance. According to your suggestions, we draw more reference from existing research results in the conclusion and discussion to support the validity of our research conclusions and meanings. For details, see pages 19-20 (lines 673-675, 695, 710, 715, 735, in red). If you have any further questions in this regard, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Point 6:. No limitation and further study opportunity section.

Response 6: Thank you for your advice. We add “6.3. Limitations and Future Research“in Chapter 6 to make expectations for future research. In this section, we present three research limitations and implications for future research (see specifically 6.3., page 20, lines 736-751, in red). If you have other suggestions, please let us know.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have addressed a very interesting issue.

Rural areas, and only in areas with other tourist attractions, provide accommodation and catering facilities rather than being a destination for tourism in itself. Tourism, meanwhile, is an opportunity for rural areas to develop, diversify farming methods and revitalise society.

The development of cultural tourism and the associated cultural industry undoubtedly has an impact on the revitalisation process in rural areas.

I have no comments on the manuscript. In my opinion, the authors have prepared it very well. I recommend the article for publication.
