Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The study entitled “Nutritional profile, phytochemical compounds, biological activities, and utilization of onion peel for food applications: A Review” is a very interesting one that has as references a large number of bibliographic sources, numbering 71, and my suggestions are:

line 50: delete the “/”

line 58: “Phenols” are mentioned twice, please delete one word

line 69: please explain what means FAS

line 73: please explain what means dm

line 77: please add the interval for flavonoids content

lines 85-86: please check if the unit of measurement is correct

line 135: OPE means?

Lines 196-197: explain what means TPC, TFC

Line 220: explain what means COX, LOX activity

Please reorganize the Conclusion section. In my opinion it is a too brief description of the conclusions of this manuscript, I think that more data needs to be added.

Good luck!

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript thoroughly reviewed the nutritional aspects of onion peel and its (possible) applications in food industry. Readers are likely to have interests in this topic for making full use of onion peel. However, there are several issues to be addressed:

Line 73: what is 8.3-15.6%? what does "dm" stand for? Do you mean dry basis?

Page 6-13: in part 3. Therapeutic effects of Quercetin, there are too much contents on Quercetin itself. I suggest to reduce much of the content and focus on the healthy effect of onion peel.

As Quercetin is a dominating element of onion peel that makes it rich in anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial and other bioactive characteristics so the content in the manuscript has been modified as per the suggestions from page number 7 to 14.
