Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors

This is a pertinent investigation, since it is a theme little debated, mainly in the scope of simulated teaching.

Despite the fact that the study has a convenience sample and is cross-sectional, it demonstrates its effectiveness in improving students' self-confidence.

I think it could be accepted for publication after minor corrections:

- Identification in table 3 of the statustical tests used -  5 variables are missing this information.

- identification in the limitations of the study, namely  that it is a non-random sampling, better clarifying the idea transmitted in the second paragraph of the discussion.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have implemented all the suggestions you have made. We hope we have complied with what was requested. Please, if this is not the case, we are at your entire disposal for any clarification.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have included the statistical test used in the variables affected.

- identification in the limitations of the study, namely  that it is a non-random sampling, better clarifying the idea transmitted in the second paragraph of the discussion.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have included this clarification at the second paragraph of the discussion.

Reviewer 2 Report

Thank you for the opportunity to review this manuscript. The comments are as follows:

Title: the title does not match the introduction in the abstract and the study purpose.

Abstract: Methods: it appears this study carried an intervention. I suggest modifying the study design (posttest design!?). Also, briefly describe the intervention.

Abstract: Results: highlight only the findings related to the study’s aim.

Methodology: As mentioned above, the study design should be corrected.

Did you have any inclusion and exclusion criteria?

Elaborate on the measures used. What are the possible scores? How about validity and reliability?

Overall, this manuscript lacks a rigorous scientific approach and presentation. The authors should argue why they choose flipped classroom approach instead of any other educational method.

Title: the title does not match the introduction in the abstract and the study purpose.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have changed the title matching its design.

Abstract: Methods: it appears this study carried an intervention. I suggest modifying the study design (posttest design!?). Also, briefly describe the intervention.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. The study is a cross-sectional study which includes an assessment after an intervention. The title includes now the study design and we have included a line addressing the training-intervention.

Abstract: Results: highlight only the findings related to the study’s aim.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have deleted the results that does not highlight the findings related to the study´s aim.

Methodology: As mentioned above, the study design should be corrected.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. The study is a cross-sectional study which includes a posttest assessment after an intervention, which is now included at the abstract and methodology.

Did you have any inclusion and exclusion criteria?

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. The sample consisted on second-year Nursing Degree students in a non-random sampling method, which is included now in design and selection of subjects. Due to sampling method no exclusion criteria were described, we hope is better addressed now.

Elaborate on the measures used. What are the possible scores? How about validity and reliability?

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. The measures used are better described now, including meaning of scoring and interpretation. We hope is more clear now.

Overall, this manuscript lacks a rigorous scientific approach and presentation. The authors should argue why they choose flipped classroom approach instead of any other educational method.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. The flipped classroom can be combined with clinical simulation, can benefit more the knowledged generated in the students and ultimately improve their self-confidence. We include a line in “information source” section to clarify this. We hope is better addressed now.

Reviewer 3 Report

I think the topic to be addressed is interesting and relevant. Interesting for those of us who are involved in teaching and relevant for the topic at hand.

However, I have a couple of questions:

(Very poor conclusion)

The presentation of the conclusions and recommendations derived from the results of the study is needed, i.e., comment on those results that serve to establish recommendations for clinical practice. The recommendations should be aimed at solving problems or improving practice, and the measures to be adopted should be specified.

The authors should comment on the limitations of the study, as all studies have limitations. In this way, they assess the internal validity of the study.

What about recommendations on future lines of research? In order to address unresolved gaps in the study, or to replicate the study in different populations or contexts.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have included a recommendation based on the results of the study. Now, we think, exists a relation between the findings and how could they be applied to clinical environment.

The authors should comment on the limitations of the study, as all studies have limitations. In this way, they assess the internal validity of the study.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have included limitations of the study assessing the internal validity. We hope this point is better addressed now.

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We have included a line at the end of the discussion to address future lines of research and replication of the study.

Would it be possible to carry out an evaluation after 3 months of knowledge, satisfaction and self-confidence?

Would it be possible to carry out an evaluation after 3 months of knowledge, satisfaction and self-confidence?

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. We think that indeed would be a magnific study to carry out. Would be possible to see the evolution of the concepts approached in the training and see how they play a role in the satisfaction and self-confidence. We much appreciate this recommendation and take it on board to design it with the same sample in future researchs.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have not addressed all the comments sufficiently. The cross-sectional design means that the data were collected at a single point of time. What is the type of design used in the study? descriptive? quasi-experimental? Would you have conducted the study if you did not introduce the intervention?

What is the type of design used in the study? descriptive? quasi-experimental? Would you have conducted the study if you did not introduce the intervention?

Author´s Response: Thank you very much for your comments. The intervention (the class with the contents on basic life support in pregnant women) was programmed from the beginning of the course. This inclusion in the program of the subject is within the adaptation that all the courses carry out from the contents to the innovations and demands that occur in the socio-sanitary context. The aim of the study was to know the evaluation and satisfaction of the students with the incorporation of this content through the flipped class. For this, a satisfaction questionnaire was passed. As done in all practices, an evaluation is carried out through a test. Taking advantage of the fact that the class satisfaction and assessment questionnaire was passed to the students, the aim was to find out if the assessment of the contents and the class was influenced by the sex of the students or other characteristics. For all these reasons, we think that it is an observational study, and can be considered analytical observational.

The objective of the article is to assess the satisfaction and usefulness of the students with the content of practice on a content that, despite the upward trend in the need for basic life support in pregnant women, is not found in the contents of the programs formative of university nursing studies.
