Authors’ answer: Based on your comments in the PDF file, we revised our manuscript “molecules-2106184” and made the corrections as follows:

  • Page 3. We arranged all the OH groups in the chemical structure of figure 2 in the same way.
  • Page 4 and Table 1. We double-checked the concentrations of gallic acid (3-5 mg/mL) and, according to the reference No. 21 [Kosuru et al. Curr Microbiol 2021, 78, (11), 3843-3852], they are provided correctly in our manuscript.
  • Page 4. We abbreviated names of bacteria as follows: oralis, S. mitis, S. salivarius.
  • Page 5. We abbreviated name of Escherichia coli as follows: coli.
  • Page 5. We double-checked the concentration of gallic acid in brackets (10 mg/mL) and, according to the reference No. 33 [Teodoro et al. Front Microbiol 2018, 9, 647], it is provided correctly in our manuscript.

The article by Rayan et al „Alkyl Gallates as Potential Antibiofilm Agents: A Review“ presents the latest pieces of information regarding the potential use of gallic acid and its esters against microbial biofilms. The submitted paper is well and professionally written, and I have only a few suggestions:

-        Tables: better format/location inside pages (e.g. Tables 1,4 and 5 are separated on two pages in one cell).

-        Table 1 - missing information for Mechanisms of Action. If there are no suggestions by the authors, add (-) with an explanation at the end of the Table - no suggested/reported mechanism in the reference/article.

 

-        lines 228 and 231 - Fix the taxonomy of S. Typhimurium to S. Typhimurium

The article by Rayan et al „Alkyl Gallates as Potential Antibiofilm Agents: A Review“ presents the latest pieces of information regarding the potential use of gallic acid and its esters against microbial biofilms. The submitted paper is well and professionally written, and I have only a few suggestions:

-        Tables: better format/location inside pages (e.g. Tables 1,4 and 5 are separated on two pages in one cell).

Authors’ answer: Table 1 cannot fit on one page, while tables 4 and 5 can fit on one page. This issue will be dealt in the proof version.  

-        Table 1 - missing information for Mechanisms of Action. If there are no suggestions by the authors, add (-) with an explanation at the end of the Table - no suggested/reported mechanism in the reference/article.

Authors’ answer: we added (-) in table 1 were mechanism of action was not reported and added an explanation that (-) means mechanism of action was not reported in the reference.

-        lines 228 and 231 - Fix the taxonomy of S. Typhimurium to S. Typhimurium

Authors’ answer: We corrected the taxonomic name of S. Typhimurium to S. Typhimurium.
