Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The report is carefully crafted and carried out. Its goal is to elucidate the optimal preparation of cinnamon leaf oils and to investigate the effect of cyclodextrin microencapsulation. The introduction gives sufficient background to understand the aim of controlled release of volatile essential oils. The materials and methods part gives a clear description of procedures and equipment, whereas the results clearly outline the degradation of the major essential oil components. The conclusions are proportionate and moderate. This reviewer finds no reason to modify the paper and recommends acceptance.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this manuscript, the thermal degradation of linalool-chemotype C. osmophloeum leaf oil is studied using Gas Chromatograph/ Mass Spectrometry. The constituents of the extracted oil were identified before and after heat treatment, which revealed changes in the composition, for example, Linalool undergo dihydroxylation followed by Ene cyclization. Microencapsulation of the essential oil with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was done upon optimizing the reaction conditions, including the oil:CD ratio and binary solvent mixture (Water:Ethanol ratio). The entrapment of the oil within the CD showed a positive effect on its thermal stability. Overall, the manuscript is well-written and nicely presented with proper language. Accordingly, I recommend the publication of the manuscript as is.
