Aims
Acting in accordance with the overall aims of the journal, the Section titled “Human Papillomavirus Vaccines” publishes original research, review and perspective articles. This includes articles related to all aspects of HPV vaccines including both prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines. All published studies are subject to rigorous peer review prior to acceptance by the editors of this Section and must meet the ethical and peer-review standards set by the journal.
Scope
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections affecting both men and women. HPV infection causes a range of diseases from non-life-threatening diseases such as anogenital warts to anogenital cancers, particularly cervical cancer, as well as head and neck cancers. The World Health Organization set a goal to eliminate cervical cancer in the next century using a 3-pronged approach of HPV vaccination, cervical cancer screening and treatment of cervical pre-cancer and cancer. Prophylactic HPV vaccines are highly effective at reducing HPV prevalence and preventing pre-cancerous anogenital lesions, especially cervical cancer, representing one of the most powerful weapons we have to permanently reduce cervical cancer and HPV-associated diseases.
This Section aims to publish manuscripts related to any aspect of HPV vaccines, including the full spectrum of research including preclinical, clinical, epidemiology, virology and immunology. It is particularly interested in publishing results from clinical studies of existing and new-generation HPV vaccines including alternative vaccination strategies such as reduced dose schedules or vaccination of high-risk populations, as well as the development of HPV therapeutic vaccines.
