Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the development of the Internet of Things and wearable devices, medical systems are faced with the problem of handling and maintaining large amounts of physiological data and bio-signals collected by wearables. The conventional cloud-based architecture fails to manage the large amounts of data collected by the wearable medical sensors for life-critical feature monitoring and real-time analysis. It is common to apply distributed computing paradigms combined with the Internet of Things and wearable devices to realize scalable and real-time medical treatment.
Fog computing is thought to be a promising paradigm for the future of medical systems by processing and storing data for the cloud service. Fog nodes can extract emergent bio-data, such as blood pressure and pulse data, via communication through multiple wearable nodes. Moreover, the fog nodes can communicate and work collaboratively to conduct real-time bio-feature monitoring, which can reduce the latency of medical treatment. As fog computing plays an important role in modern medical systems, reliable, trusted and privacy-preserving fog computing for medical systems is required.
Thus, this Special Issue will mainly focus on the emerging fog computing techniques and cryptography related to symmetry/asymmetry phenomena. Please note that all submissions need to fall within Symmetry’s scope.
Topics will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Fog computing architecture;
- Reliable fog computing algorithms;
- Privacy-preserving fog computing;
- Lightweight decentralized protocols for IoT;
- Medical data access control in fog computing;
- Data management in fog computing with cloud service;
- Fog computing network;
- Coordinate computing in fog nodes;
- Data aggregation for multiple fog nodes;
- Cryptography;
- Symmetry.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
