Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Water, energy and food are indispensable supporting resources for human development and the material basis for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the face of many global challenges, it is necessary to continuously investigate the intricate and interralated mechanisms and pathways of water, energy, and food, including localization characteristics, technical availability, economic applicability, correlation models, public participation, strategic transformation, and so on. These global known and unknown issues require the joint thinking of researchers, decision makers and practitioners. Exploring and optimizing the relevance of water, energy, and food under the joint efforts of stakeholders, thereby enhancing the scientific and guiding value of decision-making, is the foundation for achieving SDGs.

Therefore, in this theme we hope to convene relevant people from around the world who are engaged in research and practice in the field of the Water–Energy–Food Nexus to share their latest findings. The issue will include, but will not be limited to, the following topics.

  • The qualitative and quantitative efforts made by the international community to reflect and characterize the internal mechanism of the Water–Energy–Food Nexus, including conceptual extension, method integration, model optimization, etc;
  • Local, regional and global actions taken to realize SDGs, including water conservation, energy transition, and food security;
  • Exploration of novel approaches, new models and cutting-edge practices related to the Water–Energy–Food Nexus for mitigating and adapting to climate change;
  • Real feasible cases of the Water–Energy–Food Nexus with policy combinations and practical routes based on the local environment and economic characteristics.

In short, we welcome not only the sharing of real practical cases, but also the discussion of theoretical innovations and methods to improve practice, so as to freshen up existing decision-making models and traditional knowledge maps that may be behind.
