Special Issue Information
In the wider building industry, the concept of sustainability is related to adding value to the subject being investigated. Even in the field of restauration, sustainability is often identified as strictly related to the “green” sector or to ecology, but this causes a limitation of its intrinsic value and of the width of its meaning (ethical, environmental, social and economic).
The aim of this Special Issue is to define and share the meaning of sustainability, proposing a practical in-depth analysis, in which technology, even when inspired to tradition, can contribute to the conservation of the built environment in compliance with the concept of sustainability. The contributions need to guarantee a holistic vision of the historical architecture conservation, while focusing on some main themes:
- HBIM systems for the management of the built environment in the exploratory, planning and managing phases of the restauration site, showing ethical, economic and environmental sustainability;
- Solutions aimed at guaranteeing the energetic efficiency through the use of traditional materials redesigned in a modern way, innovative verification systems, possibly with HBIM system in-depths and showing the economic and environmental sustainability of the illustrated system;
- Vernacular architecture as a driving force for the conservation of the tangible and intangible tradition
of building, as well as social sustainability;
- Solutions aimed at guaranteeing the seismic improvement through the use of traditional material redesigned in a modern way, innovative verification systems, possibly with HBIM system in-depths and showing the economic and environmental sustainability of the illustrated system.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
