Dear Colleagues,
Graphene and, more generally, 2D layered materials, are, at the moment, one of the hottest topics in fundamental and applied research. The variety of electrical, optical, thermal, mechanical and chemical properties, combined with the highest achievable surface-to-volume ratio, render them suitable for advanced applications in many areas, such as material science, physics, chemistry, engineering, biology, medicine, etcetera. However, translating specific properties into real-world, sustainable applications is challenging.
The scope of this Special Issue is to collect the most recent scientific and industrial applications that make use of graphene and other 2D materials. The objective is to have a unique, interdisciplinary platform, which contributes to the diffusion of the scientific and technical knowledge for the sustainable exploitation of these new materials.
An indicative list of application areas considered in the present Special Issue is given below:
- Electronics and optoelectronics: Quantum dots, diodes, transistors, antennas, integrated circuits, photodetectors, photovoltaic cells, light emitting devices, field emission devices.
- Energy and Mechanics: Thermoelectric devices, batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, solar panels, lubricants, traducers, nano-electro-mechanical systems.
- Materials: Polymer and metal composites, functional and self-healing materials, aerospace composites, barrier coatings, corrosion protection, conductive inks, foams.
- Chemistry and Physics: Scaffolds for catalysis, membranes for filtration and desalination, sensors (gas, metals and environmental pollutants), radiation detectors, strain gauges, pressure, mass and temperature sensors, transducers.
- Biology and Medicine: Biosensors, biocompatibility, biodistribution, scaffold for tissue engineering, drug delivery, gene transfection, cancer therapy, diagnostic devices, etc.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
