Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Signals are the media that we use to interact with systems or observe them. We define a signal as any function associated with a phenomenon from which it carries some kind of information. Signal processing is an engineering area that deals with the analysis, synthesis, and transforming of signals with the inserting/recovering of information in mind. Many of the techniques used are nonlinear. Among them, neural networks are very special.

A neural network is fundamentally different from other signal processing systems. In this context, the aim of this Special Issue is to present recent advances in the areas of signals processing in evolutionary computation and neural networks as well as to provide applications for real-world problems. Additionally, it is my pleasure to invite you to submit to this Special Issue on “Evolutionary Computation and Neural Networks in Signal Processing” of the reputable MDPI journal Signals.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Deep neural networks;
  • Genetic algorithms;
  • Particle swarm optimization;
  • Grammatical evolution and applications;
  • Applications of neural networks in classification problems, such as binary classification, multiclass classification, and multilabel classification;
  • Variants of differential evolution;
  • Parallel evolutionary computation;
  • Evolution of neural networks;
  • Ant colony optimization;
  • Software specialized to neural networks;
  • Neuroevolution;
  • Memetic algorithms;
  • Applications of neural networks to pattern recognition and data mining;
  • Signal processing using neural networks and evolutionary computation;
  • Cryptography and coding for signals using genetic algorithms;
  • Pattern mining using neural networks;
  • Applications of neural networks to data collected from various sensors;
  • Activity recognition using neural networks.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Signals is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
