Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit to this Special Issue of Religions, “Exploration on the Boundary between Economics and Theology”. Since the separation of economics from theology, different attempts to explore the boundaries and the areas of intersection have been made. Theological positions influence economic analysis, and economic ideas likewise have influenced theological developments. This Special Issue aims to explore the areas in which the two disciplines come together, and those in which they intersect.

Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Theological social theory and its impact on economics (regarding issues such the foundation of social theory, development or, more recently, ecology);
  • The religious context of economics;
  • The intersection between religious ethics and economics (common good, moral ecology of the markets, desire in a theological and an economic sense, religious freedom or the capabilities approach);
  • The autonomy of earthly affairs;
  • The spiritual dimensions of economic activity such as business as a vocation or the recent idea of spiritual capital.

We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200-300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send these to the Guest Editor (alonso@unigre.it) or to the Religions Editorial Office (religions@mdpi.com). Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editor for the purposes of ensuring their proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Guest Editor
