Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Proteins have crucial roles as components of stimulus-responsive systems from a molecular to macroscopic level.

The ability of proteins to change their conformation and physical properties in response to differentiate stimuli is ubiquitous in nature. Exploiting the stimulus-responsive nature of proteins, novel materials have been designed to respond to different external stimuli, such as light, pH, ion and metal concentrations, temperature, electrical potential, redox state, or the presence of specific biomolecules. This response involves mainly protein conformational changes, which can be tuned for the development of biological applications, including biomaterials, nanodevices, biosensors, systems for tissue engineering, and for drug or gene delivery. The search for approaches that provide formulations that are stable, bioavailable, readily manufacturable, and non-toxic, has been leading to major advances in the development of carriers for the controlled release of drugs and fragrances.

This Special Issue on “Design, Development and Biomedical Applications of Proteins and Enzymes” seeks high-quality original contributions (experiments, theory, and modeling) and review articles. The scope of the Issue covers the design, development and biomedical applications of proteins and enzymes. The manuscripts can have aspects of engineered proteins, novel delivery mechanisms, and an improved fundamental understanding backed by comprehensive data. This Special Issue wants to draw the attention of the industrial and academic community to the latest developments in the field of proteins and enzymes application on drug, fragrance release, textiles, medicine and cosmetics and so on.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
