25–27 September 2024 Iron and Steelmaking 2024

Chorzów, Poland

The 31st International Scientific Conference on “MODERN METALLURGY/IRON AND STEELMAKING 2024”—organized by the Faculty of Materials Engineering, Department of Metallurgy and Recycling of the Silesian University of Technology, Poland; the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling of the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic; and the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology of the Technical University of Košice, Slovakia—will be held on 25–27 September 2024 in the Museum of Metallurgy in Chorzów, Poland.

The main goal of this event is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience and facilitate presentations of the latest trends in the field of metallurgy. For many years, this conference has been an international forum for people from science and industry and experts in related fields, enabling discussions on the current problems of this industrial sector.

This applies primarily to issues related to the production of iron, steel, and non-ferrous metals, but the event also relates to currently urgent and topical issues, such as industrial energy and waste processing and recycling. These topics are related to the main task of the metal industry in the coming years, which is decarbonization.

One of the undoubted advantages of the conference is the harmonious combination of knowledge from the scientific community with industrial practice. Such integration allows for a comprehensive view of the development of the metal sector, taking into account issues of technological development, environmental protection, waste generation and management, and energy savings.

The main research areas are as follows:

  • Iron and steel production;
  • Processes for obtaining non-ferrous metals;
  • Processing and recycling of waste materials;
  • Modelling of metallurgical processes;
  • Decarbonization of the metallurgical industry.

Additional research areas include the following:

  • Innovations in metallurgical processes;
  • Modern methods of analysis and quality control in metallurgy;
  • The use of new materials in metallurgical processes;
  • Research on energy efficiency in metal production;
  • Industry 4.0 in metallurgical enterprises;
  • Research on the impact of metallurgy on the environment and possibilities of process optimization;
  • New directions in the design of metal alloys.
