Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years there have been major advances in ocular drug delivery. Novel drug delivery systems that allow the transport of therapeutic concentrations of substances are available in the market to treat diseases that affect both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, while others are at different phases of clinical trials and studies. Despite some advances, there is still the need for new treatments for chronic eye diseases that would be able to improve the ocular bioavailability of drugs and achieve prolonged drug concentrations in the ocular tissues, avoiding the inconvenience of frequent intravitreal injections or repeated administrations of eye drops. This Special Issue searches for updates of different strategies that are being studied to increase ocular bioavailability and prolong drug release, as well as for new delivery systems and biocompatible materials that are under investigation.

Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: new strategies for sustained drug delivery systems for ocular use, as well as innovative devices and materials with the aim to increase bioavailability, reduce adverse effects, or even target specific tissues or cells of the eye.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
