Aims and Scope
The ‘’Pharmaceutical Technology, Manufacturing, and Devices’’ section of the open-access journal Pharmaceutics will publish novel, original, peer-reviewed research manuscripts, short communications, and invited topical reviews in all areas of Pharmaceutical Technology, and on fundamental and applied research in the field of manufacturing and the development of new drug delivery devices. In particular (but not exclusively), this Section invites contributions that report on the following topics:
Concepts in Basic Pharmaceutical Technology, including Chemical Processing of Pharmaceuticals
- Crystallization;
- Lyophilization;
- Chemical stability of drugs;
- Novel functionalities of excipients, materials selection, and characterization;
- Pharmaceutical process development;
- New drug delivery devices intended for oral, ocular, parenteral, vaginal, rectal, and topical applications;
- New concepts in colloidal drug delivery systems;
- Microencapsulation of drugs and bioactive molecules.
Dosage Forms Design
- Pharmaceutical engineering;
- Targeted drug delivery;
- Novel drug delivery technologies;
- Industrial and development of emerging technologies;
- Personalized dosage forms;
- Scale-up and industrialization, including process validation.
Prodrug Developments
- Prodrug designs;
- Pharmaceutical preformulation and formulation developments.
Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics
- Pharmaceutical preclinical developments;
- In vitro/in vivo correlations;
- Clinical evaluation of formulation technologies;
- Biotechnology, and especially protein–peptide chemistry, related to pharmaceutical technology.
