A section of Pharmaceutics (ISSN 1999-4923).
Section Information
Aims and scope
The Section ‘’Biopharmaceutics” of the open-access journal Pharmaceutics will publish novel, original, peer-reviewed research manuscripts, short communications, and invited topical reviews in all areas of Biopharmaceutics. “Biopharmaceutics” focuses on fundamental and applied research, including the relationship between a drug’s pharmacokinetic, physical, and chemical properties, the dosage form or delivery system into which it is included, the route of administration, and the resulting therapeutic and toxic response. In particular (but not exclusively), this Section invites contributions that report on these topics:
Concepts in ADME and drug exposure
- Absorption: mechanisms and routes of absorption, absorption enhancement;
- Drug distribution: mechanisms, kinetics and approaches to drug targeting;
- Drug elimination: metabolism and excretion, processes and kinetics, metabolites and prodrugs;
- Impact of physiological and pathological factors on drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME);
- Variability in ADME and special populations;
- Bioavailability and bioequivalence;
- Pharmacokinetics and the PK–PD relationship;
- ADME of biologicals.
Dosage forms
- Drug release: mechanisms and factors that impact the process;
- Strategies and formulations for controlled drug transport across biological barriers;
- Targeted drug delivery at organic, tissue, molecular, cellular levels;
- Novel drug delivery technologies;
- Personalized dosage forms;
- Pharmaceutical preformulation and formulation developments;
- Optimizing the safety and efficacy of therapies through medicines design;
- Modulating ADME through medicine design.
Integration of drug dosage and form biology concepts
- In vitro/in vivo correlations;
- Preclinical and clinical evaluation of formulation technologies and drug delivery systems;
- Biological membranes: modelling and simulation, drug transport;
- Understanding of biological barriers to drug release in health and disease.
Authors will enjoy a high-quality review process, rapid publication, and high visibility through access to a broad readership.
