The 2nd Biennial Symposium on Challenges in Human Identification

Dear Colleagues,

We welcome all learners and aspiring minds to the 2nd Biennial Symposium of the Association Forensic Odontology for Human Rights (AFOHR), 2023, organized by the Department of Public Health and Pediatric Sciences and Human Identification Laboratory, University of Turin, Italy.

Challenges in human identification can arise due to a range of factors, including lack of reliable identification documents, identity theft, and false identities. The 2nd Biennial Symposium aims to discuss and enlighten learners and professionals on biometric technologies, such as facial recognition, fingerprinting, and iris scanning, and the ethical and legal considerations involved in human identification. For instance, there may be concerns around privacy and data protection when using biometric technologies, as well as potential biases or inaccuracies in the identification process. The symposium will focus on specific areas where human identification poses particular challenges, such as in refugee camps, disaster zones, or in cases of missing persons, and will discuss the different strategies and tools that can be used to overcome these challenges, including the use of DNA testing, social networks, and community engagement.

Emerging trends and practices in forensic odontology have successfully popularized humanitarian forensic odontology across the globe, bringing researchers, academicians and learners together to benefit the global population. AFOHR, unique in its promotion of humanitarian forensic odontology, has been working to prevent human rights violations by joining hands with other experts in forensics from thirty different countries. This Symposium is a remarkable forum of knowledge, inviting scientists, doctors, academicians, researchers and learners to share and encourage new technologies and trends and propose new ideas for a better future.
