Dear Colleagues,
Globally, ischemic stroke is one of most common causes of death and long-term disability in adults. Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is the only therapeutic agent approved to treat patients with acute ischemic stroke, but it has a very narrow treatment window (<4.5 hours). Ischemic stroke can be complicated by disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) leading to cerebral edema, which contributes significantly to neuronal death and mortality. Injury to the BBB is largely due to an increase of neuroinflammation in ischemic brain. Thus, it is of importance to determine the role of neuroinflammation in ischemic stroke. We are pleased to invite you contributing any research work concerning with special attention to influences of immune cells, inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, oxidative stress, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and other inflammation related pathological mediators in ischemic brain tissue damage and repair. This special issue aims to understand the role of inflammatory mediators in ischemic brain, which could help develop novel diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic strategies for stroke patients. In this issue, original research articles, reviews and short communication are welcome, and manuscripts describing novel techniques or methods to reduce stroke injury are also considered.
