Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrodes play an important role in chemical sciences and have broad applications in different areas of research such as batteries development, fuel cell advancement, electrochemical sensing, medical diagnoses, electroplating, chemical analysis, electrochemical synthesis as well as in nanotechnology and bioeletrochemical research. The selection of electrodes is vital in electrochemical transformations to achieve high selectivity and better product yields. There are challenging factors that play a role in electrode’s selection in different fields of chemical sciences such as cost & lifetime, physical & chemical stability, non-toxicity, electrical conductivity, physical nature/form, resistant against corrosion, overpotential and easily manipulable under electrochemical settings. Electrode’s configuration influences their efficiency and could introduce new reactivities. Catalytic-, chiral- and photo electrodes are attractive in electroorganic synthesis and have many benefits such as less waste generation, better atom economy and high selectivities. The development of such electrodes would be a game changer in pharma industry. Computational chemistry, artificial intelligence and machine learning advances could play a key role for better understanding of electrode’s nature and reactivities in chemical sciences. This issue seeks to showcase research papers, communications and review articles that focus on the use of different electrodes in organic transformations (batch & flow) as well as their applications in other fields of chemical sciences.
