Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metabolic diseases are the most common causes of death and disability worldwide, including diabetes mellitus, fatty liver, and kidney diseases as well as malignant tumors. The prevalence of major metabolic diseases in the elderly is high, with three-quarters of elderly people suffering from at least one metabolic disease. This increasing incidence of chronic diseases is closely linked to global changes in diet and lifestyle.
Fatty acids are important energy sources for most body tissues and are classified according to their aliphatic tail length. In addition to their function as an energy source, fatty acids show critical functions such as receptor signaling, gene expression, and the regulation of systemic fuel energy homeostasis under various physiological conditions. Research on the key enzymes, genes, and metabolites involved in fatty acid synthesis, elongation, modification, oxidation, and fatty acid receptor signal transduction may lead to new thinking about the treatment of these chronic diseases.
In this Special Issue, we welcome original research, review articles, systematic reviews, mini reviews, and perspectives that take an in-depth look at advances in novel drug discovery and the new therapeutic targets involved in the fatty acid metabolism in regard to combating metabolic disease. Articles that uses bioinformatics and high throughput sequencing are highly welcomed.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
