Special Issues, Collections and Topics in MDPI journals
Traditionally, the roles of proteins, antibodies, cytokines, growth factors, and their receptors have been emphasized in health and disease. Very little interest or emphasis has been placed on lipids. In general, the word “lipids” means cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, and LDL for many. However, another group of lipids derived from the dietary essential fatty acids (linoleic acid and a-linolenic acid), such as g-linolenic acid, dihomo-g-linolenic acid, arachidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid and their pro- and anti-inflammatory metabolites, such as prostaglandins and lipoxins, resolvins, protectins, and maresins (all can be called bioactive lipids), respectively, have received much less attention. In recent years, the role of these bioactive lipids in health and disease started receiving considerable notice. These bioactive lipids seem to play a fundamental role in inflammation and immune response regulation, which may explain their involvement in diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, insulin resistance, cancer, and autoimmune diseases, and several neurological conditions including Alzheimer’s disease. Hence, we think that a Special Issue devoted to bioactive lipids, essential fatty acids, and their metabolites is due. We call upon all those who are interested in this important subject to contribute to this Special Issue with emphasis on their clinical implications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
