Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Medicina is dedicated to Professor William Stewart Halsted on behalf of his 100th death anniversary.

Professor William Stewart Halsted (New York, 23 September 1852–Baltimore, 7 September 1922), was among the first American surgeons to perform cholecystectomy and he developed a new technique for repairing an inguinal hernia; furthermore, he was a pioneer in in surgical therapy and is the father of modern breast surgery with a new technique in which the breast and chest muscles and all of the lymph nodes under the arm were removed.

Nowadays, Halsted radical mastectomy remains a landmark in the history of breast surgery, so we decided to open this Special Issue to all surgeons. I am sure that our readers will enjoy reading every paper with great interest and fascination. Therefore, all contributions are welcome.

Only manuscripts submitted before December 31 can be taken into consideration for the printed version of the Special Issue—all later submission are not guaranteed and will only appear in the online issue.
