Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Climate change and a shortage of natural resources are two major global challenges to overcome in the following decades . The construction industry is one of the main contributors to environmental disruption. In order to mitigate environmental impacts of the construction sector, more sustainable building materials and practices have been developed; however, current strategies are not adequate to negate such impacts . As such, developing new methods and materials to improve the sustainability of building materials is of great importance in order to reduce the environmental impact of building construction.

In response to the growing demand for technological advancement in the field of sustainable building materials, this Special Issue focuses on (but is not limited to) the following topics:

  • The application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to develop sustainable building materials;
  • Sustainable building materials through the employment of nanotechnology;
  • Carbon capture and sequestration in building materials;
  • Emerging supplementary cementitious materials;
  • Sustainable alkali-activated materials;
  • Alternative cements for sustainability;
  • Digital construction and sustainability;
  • Novel building materials to improve sustainability;
  • Advancements in recycling technologies for building materials.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
