31st International Symposium on the Chemistry of Natural Products and the 11th International Congress on Biodiversity (ISCNP31 and ICOB11)

On behalf of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), we are glad to inform you that the 31st International Symposium on the Chemistry of Natural Products and the 11th International Congress on Biodiversity (ISCNP31 and ICOB11), originally scheduled for 2020 and postponed because of the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak, will be held on October 15th–19th 2023 in Napoli, Italy.

The Italian chemical community has a long tradition in the chemistry of natural products, both of terrestrial and marine origin, as well as in the investigation and preservation of both terrestrial and marine biodiversity. This is especially true in the Campania region, where the leading scientific groups at the University of Napoli “Federico II”, University of Salerno, Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry (CNR) and Zoological Station “Anton Dohrn” are actively involved in furthering these aims by means of a solid network of scientific relationships and collaborations around the world. Scientists from these institutions are also involved in the organization of the International Summer School on Natural Products (ISSNP), a course sponsored by the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI), which is hosted every two years in the area of Napoli and is specifically designed for PhD students and young researchers aiming to acquire an interdisciplinary and intersectoral understanding of the state of the art in natural products chemistry and biology (https://www.issnpschool.org/). The Neapolitan area is also the headquarter of the Ischia Advanced School of Organic Chemistry (IASOC) (http://www.iasoc.it/home/), a scientific event that aims to bring together leading scientists of the highest international reputation to provide an overview of the latest advances in various areas of organic chemistry and a unique forum allowing cross-fertilization of ideas between natural product chemistry and organic synthesis and their multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary implications.

The city of Napoli, located along the Mediterranean coast in the southern part of Italy, is the third-most populous city of Italy after Roma and Milano, with a population of almost one million people. The bay of Napoli, with the eastside landscape of Mt. Vesuvius, the Sorrento coastline and the characteristic profile of the island of Capri, has served in the centuries as source of inspiration for many artists. The multitude of local attractions can satisfy the interests of different type of tourists, from the art and history enthusiast to the nature and sea lover, from the eno-gastronomy to the ancient traditions. Besides the city center, its historical sites and its museums, the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum are of great archaeological value and are famous worldwide for their astounding ruins. Not to mention the natural beauty of the astonishing Amalfi coastline, with the charming island of Capri, and the extraordinary volcanic scenarios of the Phlaegrean Fields with the world famous Solfatara fumaroles, the small intriguing island of Procida and the green thermal island of Ischia each boast unique identities and history.

ISCNP31 and ICOB11 are expected to be a fantastic opportunity to meet leading scientists from all over the world providing their contribution on various aspects and applications of this long tradition and fascinating area of research in the informal and stimulating atmosphere of this venue on the Lungomare of Napoli.

We look forward to welcoming you to Napoli for this scientific event and wish you a pleasant stay.
