What are the pre-requisites to be eligible for this award?
All of the reviewers for JSAN in 2023 will be automatically included.

Selection Criteria:
– The number of review reports;
– The quality and timeliness of review reports.

What will the winner receive?
There will be one winner this year, and the winner will receive the following:
– CHF 500;
– An opportunity to publish a paper free of charge in JSAN in 2024 after peer review;
– A certificate.

When will the winner be announced?
The winner will be announced in March 2024 on the journal website.

On behalf of the JSAN Award Committee, I am pleased to announce the winner of the JSAN Travel Award 2019. Established with the aim of supporting junior scientists to attend international scientific conferences, this year’s Travel Award will be granted to an outstanding postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Alfonso González Briones.

Dr. Alfonso González Briones is a post-doctoral researcher from the Department of Computer Science and Automation, University of Salamanca, Salamanca, Spain. His main research interests are Smart Cities, Energy Efficiency, and Edge computing. He plans to present his work at the 16th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM19), which will be held on 18th–20th September 2019, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. His work is on energy optimization through the development of intelligent architectures that allow reducing consumption without having to make significant investments in buildings and housing. These architectures are based on agents which use agreement technologies (AT) to establish a consensus among users, guaranteeing a high level of comfort. The agreed comfort preferences are then negotiated in real time with the lighting system, the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system through the deployed wireless sensor network (WSN).

The award consists of 600 Swiss Francs for Dr. González Briones to attend any academic conference in 2019.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the JSAN Travel Awards 2018 : Ms. Shuaibing Lu, a visiting PhD student at the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA; and Mr. Jorge Maestre Vidal, a PhD Student in the GASS Research Group at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spain who is also a member of the research group GASS (http://gass.ucm.es), in the Department of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence (DISIA) of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering.

Ms. Shuaibing Lu's current research topic is data center networks, especially the virtualization area, high performance computing, and resource allocation. She plans to attend the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC 2018, Kansas City, MO, USA, http://icc2018.ieee-icc.org/) to present her paper “Maximum Elastic Scheduling of Virtual Machines for Cloud-Based Data Center Networks”.

Mr. Jorge Maestre Vidal’s main research interests are artificial intelligence, pattern recognition and information security. He plans to attend the 13th International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security (ARES 2018), which will be held from August 27–30, 2018 at the University of Hamburg, Germany (https://www.ares-conference.eu). He will present research related to the mitigation of economic denial of sustainability (EDoS) attacks on 5G environments.

The awards consisted of 800 Swiss Francs each for them to attend the conferences in 2018.
