Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Bariatric surgery has rapidly emerged as a pivotal intervention in the treatment of morbid obesity and its myriad associated comorbidities. Its influence extends far beyond mere weight loss. Recent studies have elucidated the intricate interplay between gut microbiota alterations, inflammation, and the surgery’s metabolic consequences. Notably, significant advancements have been observed in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome post-operatively. However, with this progress come challenges, and an ever-evolving understanding of obesity and its associations with systemic health. This Special Issue aims to elucidate the latest developments, breakthroughs, and persisting challenges in the realm of bariatric surgery, with a keen focus on its broader implications for human health.
