Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nanotechnology has recently emerged as a transformative technology that offers inexpensive, safe, efficient, and sustainable options for environmental challenges, including the remediation of widespread heavy metal (HM) contamination in the environment. The combined application of HMs and nanomaterials (NMs) has been a recent trend in efforts to overcome soil and water pollution. It is urgent to evaluate the combined toxicity mechanisms of HMs and NMs in the environment due to their increasing release and toxicity pattern changes. Previously published findings currently do not allow a clear statement on safety of co-exposure of both NMs and HMs in agricultural soils, as data on the interplay of combined exposure with soil culture are missing to a large extent to draw proper guidelines for their applications. Aiming to explore this window further and enhance the safe application of NMs in the environment, we invite submissions of novel and original papers and reviews to this SI covering (but not limited to) the following topics:

  1. Behavior of NMs and HMs in soil and water;
  2. Co-solute impacts of NMs and HMs in the environment;
  3. Ecological impact of NMs in the presence of HMs;
  4. Green innovation for sustainable development;
  5. Trophic transfer and public health.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
