Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With climate change causing more frequent and severe natural hazards, the lives and properties of residents have been greatly threatened. Urban land utilization, including urban spatial structure, land use planning, settlement design, accessibility of public services, housing price, transportation, etc., plays an important role in disaster relief and recovery. Therefore, land-use zoning and building regulations have been widely used to build disaster-resilient communities. This Special Issue focuses on the complex relationships between urban land utilization and disaster resilience. It aims to encourage interdisciplinary academic discussion on reducing natural hazard risks and provide stakeholders and policy-makers with multiple paths to increasing resilience of cities and communities. In this Special Issue, we welcome research contributions on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Built environments of cities and neighborhoods;
  2. Social capital and resilient communities;
  3. Urban sprawl and disaster resilience;
  4. Stakeholders in disaster management;
  5. Spatial planning, governance, and disaster resilience;
  6. Spatial and social inequalities in disaster resilience;
  7. New data and methods in urban land utilization and disaster resilience;
  8. Urban land-use transitions and environmental impact.
