Recent Advances in Fungal Plant Pathogens of Horticultural Crops

The open access journal Horticulturae (IF: 2.331; Q1 in Horticulture) is pleased to announce the launch a new Special Issue entitled “Recent Advances in Fungal Plant Pathogens of Horticultural Crops”. Given your expertise in this field, we would like to invite you to contribute an article to the present Special Issue.

Horticultural crops represent an important part of human food which is consumed fresh or as processed products; therefore, their health status is critical in order to obtain high quantity and quality yields. Among the threats which can partially or even totally compromise horticultural crops’ production, fungal pathogens are the most relevant.

In years with favorable conditions for their development yields, losses can reach 100%, having a massive impact on food availability. Furthermore, climate change is one of the foremost threats to the future of sustainable agriculture and also has a considerable effect on horticultural plants’ disease development and on emerging diseases. In order to reduce the yield losses in horticultural crops, management of fungal pathogens is necessary and, consequently, knowledge about their detection, epidemiology, and control measures must be updated.

To overcome this issue, the use of new technologies for molecular detection, next-generation sequencing, and novel scientific approaches for understanding the epidemiology of fungal plant pathogens of horticultural crops and advanced biocontrol strategies to fight against them could be exploited in order to achieve safe and sustainable production.

The proposed Special Issue is seeking advanced studies, methodological achievements, tools, and novelties in the field of fungal pathogens of horticultural crops. We are looking forward to receiving your contributions in the form of original and theoretical research, short communications, reviews, and opinion articles.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
