Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent decades, complex networks have garnered the attention of many scientific areas due to the diversity of their application in many fields; the majority of studies and results related to this domain focus on integer-order complex networks. More recently, fractional calculus has been applied as a generalization of an ordinary differential equation and integration in the field of science and engineering. Chaotic, fractional, and complex dynamics are also deeply connected and, as a whole, constitute a rich and fruitful field of research in physics, mathematics, biology, engineering and social sciences. The control and synchronization of these dynamical networks have received extensive attention, but challenges persist regarding the design of controllers able to achieve synchronization even in the presence of heterogeneous networks and delays in the connections, the dynamic evolution of the couplings or mixed positive and negative couplings. Couplings in a network are but one of the primary issues determining the dynamical characteristics of network behavior. The dynamical evolution of couplings is an interesting topic, as this evolution can be time-dependent or depend on the behavior of the elements in the network, providing realistic results in many applications.

This Special Issue, entitled “New Insights and Trends in Fractional-Order Dynamical Networks, their Control and Synchronization”, welcomes the submission of articles addressing the theory and application of these networks, with Riemann–Liouville, Caputo, and Hadamard derivatives. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited, to, the following topics:

  • - Analysis of fractional-order dynamical networks
  • - Controller design of fractional-order systems and networks
  • - Synchronization of fractional-order dynamical networks
  • - Dynamic evolution of connections in fractional-order networks
  • - Applications of control and synchronization in fractional-order networks

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Fractal and Fractional is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
