Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Growing consumer demand for food products that are ready to eat, slightly or minimally processed, with prolonged shelf life and high nutritional quality, together with current environmental concerns over plastic packaging waste pollution and resource restrictions, is powerfully driving novelty in the packaging sector. The ideal packaging requires lower carbon and water footprints, is biodegradable and/or compostable, makes use of wastes or byproducts, is properly eco-designed, safe, and has the right preservation properties to prolong the lifetime of the food and should minimize food waste.

This Special Issue on “Studies on the Production of Innovative Edible and Biodegradable Packaging Materials” encourages authors to submit original research articles or comprehensive review papers addressing new methods and technologies in the development of innovative and functional food packaging that involve the implementation of effective systems, protect and extend the shelf life of food, are easy to produce using conventional technologies, inexpensive, highly eco-friendly, and sustainable, and in compliance with the latest food safety standards and anti-waste laws.
