Section Information

An understanding of genetics is critical in order to inform the conservation and management of aquatic and marine organisms. Applications of molecular genetic techniques and bioinformatic analyses are contributing to the rapid advancement of these fields. Biotechnology has great potential for advancing basic science, with practical applications in aquaculture and other fields.

The aim of this section is to provide an active forum for presenting the results of studies of basic and applied topics in genetics and biotechnology involving aquatic and marine animal systems.

The scope of this section includes:

  • The development of new genetic markers and analytic tools;
  • The population genetics of aquatic and marine animals;
  • Conservation genetics;
  • The selective breeding of cultured aquatic and marine animals;
  • The biotechnology of aquatic and marine animals.
